Desolation Bay
May 23rd, 2007
We had a wonderful opportunity to cruise to Alaska last summer. It is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. This is footage from the fourth of July, in Desolation Bay.

With the advent of services like twitter, character limitations becomes a serious issue. Trying to post a link in your tweets with only 140 characters to spare demands creative solutions. Thanks to tinyurl, you can post the longest links and still get the point across. It provides a simple form to turn a link like this:

chrome in photoshop
May 20th, 2007

(Originally posted on blog here) Anyone who was alive in the seventies will hopefully appreciate this little tutorial. I remember airbrushing these type of effects a hundred years ago…in fact I still own several thousand dollars worth of airbrush equipment. One brush I bought for close to $700 weeks before an update to the Mac OS that made it a more viable solution for the type of work I was doing than the traditional way.
Anyhoo, the chrome effect can be a winner for certain types of projects. There are few steps and as always, once you get the hang of it there is really no end to how you can alter and customize per your vision.

sIFR without Flash
May 19th, 2007
Clic!Dev has discovered way to create sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) without the need for Adobe’s Flash application. They show a snippet of the code and provide a link to SourceForge to download of the app. sIFR is a great way to enhance any site with quality fonts for headers and Clic!Dev has made it even easier and more affordable than ever.
Irish dolphins
May 14th, 2007
Yahoo! is reporting scientists have found some dolphins in a river estuary in the SW portion of the emerald isle, appear to have developed their own brogue. Like so many things from my ancestral homeland, these creatures are truly unique.
Google Analytics v.2
May 14th, 2007
I have recently started using v.2 of this great piece of software. Although it does not provide real-time analysis of data, it offers some significant enhancements to the functionality offered. A great new feature is the ability to not only email results and reports, but also to schedule these tasks. GA has been a solid piece of software since Google acquired it and they continue to expand its functionality.

Editors
May 5th, 2007
There seem to be a glut of code/text editors for the Mac these days. From free options, like TextWrangler, to the latest release of Adobe’s DreamWeaver CS3, the options have never seemed as vast. One editor that I have begun to use almost exclusively is Macromate’s TextMate.
TextMate combines many of the great functions of the Unix underpinnings of the Mac OS with the simple GUI interface that does not obstruct your workflow. It interacts with a multitude of operations as well as provides an extensible architecture for 3rd party developers.
I use it to update several of my blog accounts through the use of blogmate. This allows me to work on code, troubleshoot operations and edit some of my editorial responsibilities all from within one app. I picked it up after the MacHeist viral scavenger hunt, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to, as Thoreau said…simplify, simplify, simplify.
